Springtime and Smoothies!

The change from winter to spring can be a fickle time. Our body, mind, and spirit begin to transition. We trade the inward energy of cold, dark, and shorter days for the outward energy of warmer, sunlit, longer days. Spring is a time of renewal, especially for the digestive system. Switching to foods that uplift and support the liver, spleen, stomach, and intestines can provide an abundance of energy and stabilize hormones.

Here is a simple smoothie recipe that I enjoy - it helps renew liver vitality & function ( it’s a yummy welcome to spring) :

  • 2 cups of frozen kale

  • 2 cups frozen blueberries

  • 1 cup of water (sometimes I use 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup dandelion tea-cooled)

  • 1 cup of whole fat plain (organic if you can) kefir

Blend together and drink in the morning.

Great way to begin the day with renewal and joy!

Green Power

To quote Kermit the Frog, “It’s not easy being green” but actually, it can be when you enhance your smoothie with spirulina (antioxidant and anti-inflammatory) and/or chlorella (binds to heavy metals, supports digestion).

Try this green power smoothie recipe that may aid in cleansing the liver, boosting immunity, and helping avoid those seasonal allergies.

  • 1 apple

  • 1/2 banana

  • bunch of kale

  • scoop of parsley

  • 1/2 teaspoon chia seeds

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric (rich in phytonutrients)

  • 1 teaspoon spirulina or chlorella ( or 1/2 teaspoon of each)

  • choice of milk
